Twelve candles of ten grams: about fifteen hours of light in the box. And the white bloom they get with time is not a fault — it is the proof the wax is pure.
Pack of 12 beeswax candles, hand-rolled from stamped honeycomb foundation sheet. 10 cm tall and 2 cm across, about 10 g each.
01 · TWELVE CANDLES, FIFTEEN HOURS
Each candle gives between 1 and 1.5 hours of flame, so the pack comes to twelve to eighteen hours of light. The 120 g of the batch match that duration: a small wax candle uses on the order of seven to ten grams an hour.
At 2 cm across they want a narrow candlestick. Check the socket on yours before buying.
02 · THE WHITE BLOOM IS NOT MOULD
Over time a whitish film appears on the surface. It is not dust, not mould, and not the candle going off: it is the fatty acids in the wax migrating outward. It is called bloom.
It is in fact a sign: paraffin does not bloom. If it bothers you, take it off with a soft cloth or a short blast of a hairdryer — and it will come back, because that is what pure wax does.
03 · THE HONEYCOMB HEXAGON
The hexagonal surface is not decoration: it comes from the stamped foundation sheet the bees build their comb on. The candle is rolled by hand over that sheet and keeps the imprint.
They are declared free of paraffin, colourants and fragrance: the honey-and-flowers smell is the wax's own.
04 · THE WICK, AT 5-7 MM
Before lighting, trim the wick to 5-7 mm. A long wick makes a big flame that melts more wax than it burns: it drips, it smokes and the candle lasts less.
And light it away from a draught. Moving air leans the flame, melts one side before the other and the candle opens up there. On a stable, heat-resistant base, and not left unattended.
