On the frame, the wire is kept taut to hold the foundation, and over the seasons —and with the heat of embedding— it tends to cut into the soft wood of the side bar: tension is lost and the comb buckles. Brass eyelets line each hole the wire runs through, so the load sits on the metal instead of the pine — the wire stays tight season after season.

🔧 Brass that lasts and won't stain

Made of brass, which doesn't rust: they neither seize in the hole nor leave rust marks on the wax or comb, unlike a steel eyelet. The tube seats in the hole and won't drop out while you wire, and once fitted it spreads the wire's tension over the metal, stopping it from cutting into the wood and slackening. The result: frames that hold their tension and foundation that draws out straight.

📐 Check the diameter before you buy

The tube (the part that goes into the frame) is 2.90 mm in diameter, the standard size of most factory-drilled side bars. Even so, check your frame's hole: if it's wider, the eyelet will wobble; if it's narrower or the frame isn't pre-drilled, open or widen the hole to size (with an awl or an eyelet punch) before fitting. Suits any horizontally wired frame — National, Langstroth, Commercial…
