01 · HALF A SQUARE METRE OF FILTER

Against the thousand square centimetres of a flat one

A flat filter resting on the ripener's mouth offers the surface of its own circle — around 1,000 cm² in an ordinary size. This one, being a hanging truncated cone 54 cm deep, adds up its whole side wall: about 4,700 cm², nearly half a square metre.

The 38 cm model comes to roughly 3,400 cm². Either way that is several times the surface of a lid filter, which is why the honey strains faster and needs clearing fewer times over the same day.

02 · DEPTH IS WHAT DECIDES

The filter hangs inside, so it has to fit

The two versions differ only in height: 54 cm the large, 38 cm the medium. Since the filter hangs inside the ripener, what to look at before choosing is the clear depth of yours.

With a tall ripener the 54 goes in and all that surface is used. With a shorter one, or with the tank already part-filled, the 38 leaves the clearance needed for the tip not to touch the honey.

03 · THEY ARE THE SAME ON TOP

Same mouth, same seat

Both sizes share 31.5 cm top diameter and 24.5 cm bottom. They seat identically, and the fit at the ripener's mouth is the same for both — the choice changes nothing about the mounting.

They weigh 3 kg the large and 2 kg the medium, so both are handled with one hand even loaded with wax.

04 · IT FILTERS, IT DOES NOT CLARIFY

Resting still does its part

A tubular filter holds back what you can see: wax, cappings, debris. What stays in suspension — the fine bubbles and the small particle — remains the job of resting in the ripener.

More filter does not shorten the settling; what it does is let the settling start with the honey already clear of the coarse, which is a different thing and is the point.

Measure the clear depth of your ripener before choosing between 54 and 38 cm. The mouth is the same on both.
