Details of Pre-strainer Clarifier with heated bottom Carl-Fritz®

Carl-Fritz heated pre-filter decanter: it goes under the extractor's tap and filters the honey by gravity.

It is the first filter in the line, and the one that works for free. Honey falls from the extractor, passes through the filter under its own weight and comes out through a 2-inch butterfly valve, ready to pump to the maturer. All stainless, with a 263 W bottom heater and an adjustable thermostat. Ø 55 cm inner container.

01 · THE THERMOSTAT GOES TO 85 °C

But the honey must not go there

The thermostat range runs from 30 to 85 °C, and it is worth understanding what that maximum means: it is what the machine can deliver, not what the product allows. Honey starts losing its enzyme profile and raising HMF above 40 °C.

Heat here has a specific and modest job: keeping the honey fluid so it passes the filter without clogging it, especially at the end of the day as the room cools. The low end of the range is plenty. Turning the thermostat up does not filter faster: it cooks.

02 · 263 WATTS: MAINTENANCE HEAT

The power rating says it itself

The element is 263 W at 230 V, a little over one amp. Under a Ø 55 cm container that does not heat a load of honey: it holds it. The machine is sized to accompany, not to warm from cold.

That matters when planning: if the honey arrives cold and hard from the store, this decanter is not going to bring it round. There is equipment for tempering, and this is not it.

03 · NO GASKETS, NO CREVICES

Butt joint and welded base

The inner container has a butt joint and a welded base with no gaskets. In a device that receives freshly extracted honey — with wax and cappings debris in it — every gasket is a place where product collects and has to be got out at cleaning.

The tank bottom slopes to the outlet, on the same logic as a total-drain maturer: what goes in, comes out. The carrying handles are rigid and the whole thing weighs around 15 kg, so it moves by hand.

04 · DN50 BUTTERFLY OUTLET

And you should check it matches your line

The outlet is a 2-inch butterfly valve, DN50, meant to couple straight to a transfer pump and send the pre-filtered honey to the maturer or the drum.

That size matches the large maturers and the room pumps, but not the inch-and-a-half line usual in smaller installations. If you are unsure which fitting you need, tell us and we will look at it.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

First filter in the line, under the extractor.

✓ A GOOD FITUnder the tap of any extractor, with an outlet to a transfer pump. DN50.
⚠ IT WILL NOT TEMPER COLD HONEY263 W only maintain fluidity. To warm a cold load you need other equipment.
✕ DO NOT TURN THE THERMOSTAT UPIt reaches 85 °C, but honey must not go past 40. The maximum is the machine's, not the product's.
