The diameter that decides is not the strainer's: it is the mouth of the settling tank. The arms have to reach the rim.

01 · WHICH SIZE TO PICK

Measure the mouth, not the bucket

The fixed arms are what make this a one-handed tool: it sits on the container and you no longer hold it while you pour. But for that they have to reach the rim.

02 · WHAT IT CATCHES

First pass, not the last

It holds back the coarse stuff: wax, bits of capping and bees. It goes right at the extractor outlet and keeps all of that out of the settling tank.

What it does not do is polish the honey: fine filtering comes afterwards. The continuous mesh helps with its own job — it strains evenly, with no dead spots where cappings pile up.

03 · WARM PASSES, COLD DOESN'T

When to strain

Honey is strained straight out of the extractor, still at hive temperature. Cold it thickens and the mesh blinds over: you end up pushing it through with a spatula.

And for the same reason it is cleaned hot. Stainless steel takes hot water without trouble, and hot water is what lifts wax off the mesh.
