Flat AISI 304 stainless steel filter with 1 mm mesh, fits Ø470 mm ripeners. Ideal for fast, efficient pre-filtration of honey.
The filter is 465 mm and the settling tank 470 inside. Those 5 mm of difference are exactly what lets it drop in and sit: not a tolerance, a dimension.
AISI 304 stainless steel filter with a full 1 mm mesh surface, for 200 kg settling tanks. Ø 465 mm. Made in Italy by Quarti.
01 · 465 IN 470: THE 5 MM THAT FIT
It fits stainless settling tanks of 470 mm inside diameter, which is the size of the 200 kg Quarti. Before ordering, measure the inside of yours: it is the only check needed.
Unlike a conical strainer, here the whole surface is mesh. That multiplies the open area, so the honey drops through faster — and there is no cone to go out of shape over the years.
02 · ONE MILLIMETRE IS A COARSE FILTER
The mesh is 1 mm: it holds back lumps of wax, cappings, the odd leg and any stray bees. It holds back nothing smaller, and that is exactly its job.
It is the first filter, the one between the extractor and the rest. The fine work happens afterwards in the tank itself, where foam and micronised wax rise to the top on their own.
03 · CAREFUL WITH OVER-FILTERING
You can add a nylon filter on top to refine, and for a pale presentation honey that makes sense. But a nylon strainer catches fine wax and foam — it does not strip the honey of its pollen, and just as well.
A honey from which a significant amount of pollen has been removed becomes «filtered honey», a category of its own that has to be declared on the label and that does not allow the floral origin to be stated. Pollen is what lets you prove what your honey is made of: over-filtering means losing that argument.
04 · FILTER WARM, CLEAN WARM
Cold honey does not go through: at storage temperature it is too viscous and the mesh turns into a plug. You filter it freshly extracted and still warm, using the heat it already carries.
And the same at the end: the wax left in the mesh comes off with hot water before it sets. Leave it until the next day and you will be scraping. Then dry it — honey is acidic, and stainless steel would rather not sit wet.
