Nylon filter cloth with a 300 micron mesh for making finishing filters to suit buckets, drums and settling tanks. It is sold by the linear metre: each unit is a piece measuring 1,000 × 1,270 mm. The cut-to-size format allows a filter bag or surface to be made without depending on a particular ring.
A 300 µm —0.3 mm— opening retains fine fragments of wax and other visible process particles. It does not remove chemical residues, sterilise the honey or correct honey that has fermented or overheated. If the honey arrives with cappings and large debris, first use a coarser strainer to prevent this cloth from blocking immediately. Mesh size describes the opening, not the flow rate: cold, crystallised or wax-laden honey needs more surface area and time than clean, warm honey.
Cut it with enough margin to secure the perimeter and support it on a basket, ring or stable frame; do not leave it hanging only from the vessel edges. A column of honey is heavy and can distort the fabric or pull the fixing loose. Before filling, test the assembly with water and check that no folds allow honey to bypass the filter.
Filtration improves when the honey is fluid and the useful surface is generous. Work at the lowest temperature that allows it to pass and avoid repeated heating. After use, remove wax before it hardens, wash without implements that could cut the mesh, rinse and dry completely. Replace the piece if it has tears, odours or distorted areas.
