Details of Honey Conical strainer stainless steel

Conical stainless steel strainer with a 500-micron mesh, 25 cm across and arms that extend to 44 cm to rest on different vessels.

It is the first stage of straining, not the finish. It holds back the coarse stuff so the fine mesh that comes after does not blind itself in two minutes.

01 · THE 500 MICRONS

Half a millimetre is coarse work, not finishing

The 0.5 mm openings hold back bits of capping, wax flakes and bees, and let the honey through without slowing it. That is what you want on the first pass, straight off the extractor: put the finishing mesh there and it saturates at once, and you end up pushing the cloth. Fine straining comes later.

02 · THE ARMS

From 25 to 44 cm of support, and that is the limit

The extending arms let the same strainer serve a narrow pail and the mouth of a settling tank, with no stand per vessel. But 44 cm is the ceiling: on a 300 kg drum, which runs to about 59 cm across the mouth, it does not reach to rest. Measure the mouth before ordering.

03 · THE CONE

The point concentrates the flow and makes less foam

The conical shape gathers the flow into one stream instead of spreading it over a flat surface, so the honey goes in without being beaten. Less air dragged in means less scum to skim later off the tank. Strain with the honey fluid: cold, the cone is slow to empty.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

If what you want is a finishing strain, this is not the mesh: the catalogue has strainers and cloths of finer micronage.
