Those two figures are what you ask us about this strainer, and they explain why the meshes work in series instead of one finer mesh on its own.
01 · THE TWO MESHES
The fine mesh on its own blinds with the first bucket: coarse wax and pieces of capping cover the openings and from then on the honey heads for the rim. The 1,183 micron mesh holds all that first and hands the second one honey already free of bulk, so the fine mesh works through the whole extraction instead of ten minutes. Clear the wax off the top one as it builds up; that is the only chore the set asks for.
02 · THE SEATING
The disc measures 468 mm, but what rests on the vessel are the lugs, which reach beyond that. They are sized for 200 to 400 kg settling tanks and for the 300 kg drum, so measure the mouth of yours before ordering and, if it is tight, ask us for the tip-to-tip figure. And check that both lugs are bearing: a loaded strainer that tilts empties down the side that drops.
03 · THE DEPTH
The 160 mm of depth are the reserve that lets you tip in a whole bucket and walk off for the next one while the strainer works on its own. Over an afternoon's extraction, that reserve is the difference between watching the stream and getting through frames.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The fine mesh is declared as 830 or 870 microns depending on the unit that comes from the factory; if your specification needs a closed figure, confirm it before ordering.
