Thermal Inner Cover Insulation Pad for Beehives (500 x 430 mm)

An energy-efficient hive starts with good insulation. This thermal inner cover is a simple yet highly effective tool that helps maintain a more stable internal temperature inside the hive, both in winter and summer. It is especially recommended for hives with metal covers or for apiaries located in areas with extreme weather (e.g. hot summers and cold winters).

What is it and what is it for?

This is a three-layer thermal pad: two sheets of reflective aluminum enclose a core layer made of large-cell polyethylene bubble wrap (total thickness: 8 mm). This structure creates an insulating barrier that minimizes heat loss in winter and heat buildup in summer, reducing the energy bees must use to regulate the hive's temperature.

Less energy spent on ventilation or clustering = more energy available for brood rearing, foraging and survival.

Where is it placed?

• Directly on top of the frames
• On top of the inner cover or feeder
• Attached to the underside of the hive lid

Although it can also be used on the outside (above the lid), its performance is optimal when placed inside the hive. If installed against a metal cover, we recommend leaving a small air gap between materials to avoid direct conduction. This improves thermal insulation by up to 40% in summer.

Compatibility and hive behavior

• Dimensions: 500 x 430 mm, compatible with Langstroth and Dadant Blatt hives, as well as plastic lids like those from Nicot®
• Bees propolis this material well, and it holds up over time: it does not tear easily, it prevents condensation, and its flexible texture makes it easy to remove
• Much more effective and durable than cloths or newspaper, which absorb moisture and quickly lose insulating properties

Technical details that make the difference

Not all insulation is created equal. Some cheaper models are only foil-coated on one side or lack protective treatment, causing bees to gnaw through them. This pad is foil-laminated on both sides, with anti-corrosion and flame-retardant treatment. It is designed specifically for beekeeping use, not an industrial leftover with uncertain quality.
