A 1 kg reel of AISI 304 stainless-steel wire, 0.50 mm in diameter and approximately 800 metres long. It is intended for wiring and tensioning hive frames before fitting wax foundation.
The 0.50 mm wire combines a manageable diameter with the strength needed to support foundation. Its annealed finish aids handling, although stainless steel may feel stiffer than other frame wires. Apply tension gradually to avoid distorting the frame.
One reel can wire approximately 412 Layens, 500 Langstroth, 381 Dadant brood or 510 half-super frames. These figures are indicative: the actual yield changes with the number of runs, the wiring pattern and the length left over on each frame.
Stainless steel may respond differently from other wires, and the result also depends on the transformer and connected length. Test with short pulses and stop once the wire is embedded in the wax, avoiding overheating or cutting through the foundation.
