01 · THE SPOOL RANGE

500 g to 1 kg, and that is the limit

This is the figure that decides the purchase, so it comes first: the stand is made for reels of 500 g to 1 kg. The big reels in the range — the 3 kg and 6 kg stainless ones, or the 13 kg galvanised — will not go on: they neither sit between the cheeks nor take this spindle through their centre. If you work with those, you need an unwinder of another size.

02 · THE FIXING

A tidy feed starts with a fixed base

The base has holes to screw it down to a stable bench. Position it so that the wire comes off in line with the frame, without rubbing an edge, and before you pull check two things: that the reel turns freely and that the end has not caught under another turn. A wire that snags gives a jerk, and the jerk is what throws the reel out of place.

03 · WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It dispenses the wire, it does not tension it

Worth being clear so you do not expect what it cannot give: tensioning is another tool. This stand only guarantees that the wire comes off without resistance and without tangling. Hold the end before you cut and never leave a free end under tension, which is how they spring. Clear dust and wax residue and keep the spindle dry so the reel keeps turning evenly.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The maker does not document the outside dimensions of the stand; what decides the fit is the reel, not the bench. If you need the exact figure, ask us and we will measure it.
