A square jar is not chosen for looks: it is chosen because it leaves no gaps on a pallet.

Twenty-five square glass jars of 310 ml, with a Twist Off 63 mouth. They hold about 435 g of honey.

01 · THE GEOMETRY

Square means more metres of shelf

The square footprint fits against its neighbour with no air between: more jars go in the same box and on the same pallet, and the load travels steadier than a row of cylinders.

The flat faces also allow wrap-around labelling on two or four sides: the main label, the batch back-label, even the pollen analysis.

02 · THE LID

Standard TO 63, and the numbers work out

The mouth is an ordinary Twist Off 63: it takes the shallow-skirt TO 63 lid — gold, black, honeycomb or with a bee — and all of them come in packs of 25, like the jars.

The one that will not do is the deep silver skirt (DTO-63): that belongs to the wide-mouth jars.

03 · PASTEURISING

What breaks a jar is not the heat

It takes a metal pasteurising lid and a water bath. But the real risk is elsewhere: what breaks glass is not the temperature, it is the sudden change. Bring it up and down slowly, and never put cold jars into hot water.
