16 JARS PER PACK | 746 ml 1 KG OF HONEY |
82 mm TWIST-OFF NECK | 320 g GLASS PER JAR |
Glass jar with honeycomb relief on the sides, in packs of 16, for the beekeeper who bottles in quantity without committing to a whole pallet.
First things first: check the neck — it decides which lid you will buy all season.
01 · THE NECK DECIDES THE LID
This jar is made with two neck sizes: the 82 mm you are looking at and the 77 mm version. Same glass, same 746 ml, same kilo, same relief — five millimetres of thread apart. It sounds like a detail and it is not: lids are sold separately, and TO82 and TO77 are not interchangeable. What you pick today is the lid format you will reorder at every top-up. If you already have boxes of lids at home, start from those rather than the other way round; and if you are starting from scratch, keep a single neck size across your whole line so you do not end up with two stocks that cannot cover each other.
02 · WHY 746 ML IS A KILO
It is the question that always comes up in this category: if the jar holds 746 ml, how do a thousand grams fit? Because honey weighs close to a kilo and a half per litre — around 1.4 kg/l — so a one-kilo container necessarily holds less than a litre. The same jar takes about 470 g of pollen, considerably less, because the grains trap air between them and do not settle like a liquid. If you bottle by weight, always work from the weight; the volume of the glass only tells you whether it fits.
03 · FILL FAST, NO CLEANING UP AFTER
A wide neck earns its keep at both ends of the jar's life. Filling, it lets thick honey through without spilling over the rim even straight from the honey tank or the strainer, and even with honey that has begun to crystallise and comes down in fits and starts. And in use, whoever takes it home can get a spoon right to the bottom once the honey sets — precisely where a narrow neck becomes a nuisance.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Lids are not included. The ones that match this pack 1:1 are the TO82 honeycomb lids in packs of 16, also available in gold, silver, white, black, bronze or with an embossed bee. If you are bottling seriously, the quantity discount kicks in from 32 packs and has a second step at 64. Above that sits the full pallet of 1,016 units, the lowest cost per jar if you have the means to handle palletised loads.
