01 · COMPATIBILITY

Many 82 jars, and three that need the deep skirt

This lid closes the 1 kg honeycomb jar, the 720 ml Orcio, the N720 Normalisse, the Oval BOV 720, the 720 hexagonal and the Pot-720. What it does not close are the deep-finish ones — the 720 ml Aura, the 1 kg Apiari and the 410 ml Deep jar — whose necks are longer and which need the deep H14 skirt. It is the same 82 mm diameter in both cases: what changes is the skirt, and it only shows with both lids side by side.

02 · NOT ONLY FOR HONEY

It is the finish of the classic preserving jar

Though it sits in the beekeeping section, TO 82 is a standard domestic preserving finish: people use it for jams and sterilising with very good results. The thermal limit Tecnocap declares is 100 °C for 60 min in pasteurisation; sterilising at 125 °C requires prior agreement with the manufacturer. That figure describes what the lid withstands and does not replace validating the food, the headspace and each packer's actual cycle.

03 · COLOURS AND FORMATS

82 is the finish with the most coatings in the catalogue

On this finish you are not stuck with plain gold: there is silver, black, bronze, honeycomb and bee-image, and even decorated gift editions. They all share one specification sheet and one closure — the colour is outer lacquer over the same tinplate — so you can alternate finishes within a run without changing anything. And for production, the full box of this reference is 740 lids.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the six lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Check whether your jar says Deep: if so you need the deep skirt and this is not it. And keep the lids in their packaging until you fill: the sealing compound spoils without showing it, and a lid with a knocked skirt no longer seats.
