TO 77 JAR MOUTH | 25 LIDS PER PACK |
Pack of 25 Twist-Off TO 77 lids with a honeycomb print, for jars with a GPI 2040 finish. Six lugs and a pasteurisation-rated liner.
The print identifies your range, but what decides compatibility is the mouth: TO 77 and GPI 2040, not the outside diameter.
01 · THE LID IS CHOSEN BY THE MOUTH
It is the most repeated mistake with twist-off lids: TO 77 is not the lid's outside diameter or the size of the print — it is the diameter of the jar's mouth, and GPI 2040 is the finish that accepts it. If your jar is TO 63, TO 66 or TO 82, this lid will not close however similar it looks in the photo. Before ordering, check your jar's designation or measure the mouth inside the glass: thirty seconds, and it saves a pack of 25 useless lids.
02 · THE LINER SEALS ONCE
What seals is not the thread but the compound inside the lid: an elastic bead that deforms against the rim of the glass the first time you close it and keeps that imprint. That is why a used lid can close perfectly and still not pull a vacuum — the button does not go down, or it goes down and pops back days later. For your own use, reuse it without drama; for honey going to sale, a new lid per jar. And before closing, set aside any that arrive dented, with lugs sprung or the liner marked: six lugs give margin, but a deformed one is already working badly.
03 · THE OTHER HALF OF THE SEAL
With the best lid in the world, a chipped rim, a burr or a trace of liner from a previous closure will not hold a vacuum. Run a finger round the jar rim before filling — you feel it before you see it — and set aside anything that catches. Then the closure: tighten until the lid seats, without forcing; over-tightening does not improve the vacuum and can lift the compound. The vacuum is made by the hot product cooling, not by the strength of your wrist. The whole travel is a quarter turn: if it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift the lid off and set it down flat again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The manufacturer states suitability for pasteurisation up to 100 °C for 60 minutes; validate it with your own product, jar, fill, headspace and cycle, and do not extrapolate it to sterilisation, which is a different process. The print does not replace the mandatory label. Store them dry and clean between +5 and +35 °C, at a maximum relative humidity of 70 %.
