Seven hundred and twenty millilitres are nine hundred and seventy grams of honey: the old one-kilo jar, without saying kilo.

Sixteen oval glass jars of 720 ml, with a Twist Off TO 82 mouth. They measure 108 mm across by 130.5 tall and weigh 365 g each.

01 · THE 82 MOUTH

Wide, and the numbers work out

An 82 mm mouth on a 108 mm jar takes up almost the whole shoulder: you fill it without a narrow funnel and the spoon reaches the bottom, which is what you want with crystallised honey or with a creamed one.

And the numbers work out: jars come in packs of 16 and the TO 82 lids do too, so it is one pack per pack. Mind the skirt, though: this jar takes the standard TO 82 lid, not the deep-skirt one.

02 · WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Honey, and everything else

It is a pantry format: it holds nearly a kilo of honey, but the wide mouth and clear glass make it just as good for pollen, preserves or olives.

And it has one use that appears in no catalogue: baking kits in a jar — flour, sugar and chocolate in layers, with the recipe hung from the neck — are built in exactly this size.
