Choose according to the frames being transferred

The Langstroth P-Hive and Dadant Blatt have different body heights and frame accommodation. Dadant Blatt uses a 47 cm top bar, not the 48 cm Dadant US version. This matters when transferring brood or stores from existing hives.

Use a complete frame from your operation as the reference, including its top bar and side bars. Six frame positions do not make the two versions interchangeable. Any supers or top-feeding equipment must suit the nuc model and its external dimensions.

Prepare the polystyrene exterior for apiary use

The nuc is supplied unpainted. Protect the exterior with a coating suitable for polystyrene, such as water-based paint. Keep the entrance and ventilation clear during preparation. Six-frame construction allows full-sized frames to be moved between nuc and hive when both share the same dimensions.
