With nothing holding them apart, the frames in a box drift together, propolise into one solid block and shift about every time the hive is moved.
This castellated spacer fixes to each end of the box and holds the frames at a constant spacing — in nucs and in full colonies alike.
01 · MATERIAL
A strip of galvanised steel 0.8 mm thick, with the castellations punched at regular intervals so that every frame sits in its own slot. Sold singly: you need two per box, one at each end, even though the product photo may show them as a pair.
02 · WHICH ONE
By frame count — 190 mm for 5 frames and 225 mm for 6 (nucs); 375 mm for 8, 9 or 10 frames (full hives). By top bar — a 25 mm version, which is the usual one, and a 30 mm version. Fit the one that matches the real width of your top bars: too narrow and the frames go in tight and need easing with a file.
