Clear food-grade polypropylene bucket of 10 litres, with a press-on lid and a folding handle. It measures 25.8 × 25.8 cm and 27.2 tall.
Ten litres are not ten kilos: honey weighs about 40 % more than water, so this bucket full comes to some 14 kg.
01 · THE CONVERSION
A litre of honey weighs around 1.4 kg, and everything follows from that: the 10 litres of this bucket are about 14 kg of honey filled to the brim, and rather less if you leave headroom to close it without overflowing. The exact density shifts with moisture and with the type of honey, so selling by weight needs scales: this figure is for planning containers, not for labelling.
02 · THE CLEAR BODY
The clear body lets you check colour, level and how the granulation is coming along at a glance. For anyone selling in bulk or delivering batches to regular customers, that saves opening the container just to show the honey, which is opening it for nothing and breaking the seal. It also helps you spot a separating layer or a head of foam worth skimming.
03 · THE HANDLING
The handle folds down so empty buckets stack and store without catching on each other. The press-on lid keeps out dust and ambient moisture in store and in transit, though it is not a leak-proof seal meant for laying the container on its side. The supplier declares it approved for transport under ADR, UN, IMDG and ICAO: if you ship, that is worth having to hand.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
At those dimensions it also takes 5 kg of feed or any other hive product comfortably: the limit is the weight you want to lift, not the volume.
