01 · HOW MUCH HONEY IT HOLDS

Nearly five and a half kilos

At 1.4 kg a litre, these 3,895 ml filled to the brim come to about 5.45 kg of honey; packed with its sealing air, the working figure is 5.25 kg. Five jars are therefore more than 26 kg of product. Think about weight before volume: full, it goes past six kilos with the glass, and that decides where you put it and how you move it.

02 · THE WIDE MOUTH

110 mm is what makes this size useful

With a 110 mm mouth your hand goes in and so does a ladle, which is exactly what a jar of this capacity needs: filling without a funnel and emptying without a fight once the honey crystallises. Any standard TO 110 twist-off lid fits. Note that no other jar in the range shares this size: the lids are bought specifically.

03 · WHAT IT IS FOR

Bulk, preserves and shop window

This is the jar for bulk honey — to keep to hand in the honey house or to sell by the kilo — and also for the olives, pickles and fruit in syrup of a small workshop. And it works as a display piece: 159 mm across by 254 tall catches the eye on a counter, with the colour of the contents on show.

04 · THE GLASS

1.39 kg of empty jar

The jar weighs 1,390 g empty, which is a thick wall to carry the load. Even so, it is a large glass container: check the pack when it arrives before storing it, and keep the jars upright without weight stacked on top. If you fill hot, warm the jar first — a thermal shock on a wall this thick does not forgive.
