TO 110 FINISH · GPI 2070 | 8 LUGS |
The lid for large jars: a 110 mm finish, eight lugs and a plain gold coating, in packs of 9.
It is the widest finish in the catalogue, on 0.19 mm tinplate, the heaviest gauge in the twist-off range.
01 · TIGHTENING
At this size some people find the lid gives way sooner than the small ones and end up stripping the turn. The metal is not thinner — 0.19 mm is the heaviest gauge in the range — but it is spread over a disc twice the diameter of a honey-jar lid, so at equal gauge it is proportionally less rigid. What follows in practice: the seal is made by the compound against the glass rim, not by force. Turn until you feel the stop and let go; forcing it deforms the skirt and the lug slips, and from then on it will not seal. The whole travel is a quarter turn: if it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift the lid off and set it down flat again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.
02 · COMPATIBILITY
It closes the 3,895 ml Gallon jar and the 1,966 ml Half Gallon jar, the only ones with this finish in the catalogue. Eight lugs and a GPI 2070 finish: no other lid we sell comes close, so there is no confusing it with a neighbouring size. For your sums, the pack of 9 lids matches the pack of 9 Half Gallon jars exactly; the Gallon is sold in fives, and for production runs the full box is 270 lids.
03 · THERMAL LIMIT
Tecnocap states pasteurisation up to 100 °C for 60 min and sterilisation up to 125 °C by prior agreement only, with a condition that carries weight in this format: the difference between internal and external pressure must not exceed 0.7 bar. In a jar of almost four litres the enclosed air volume is far greater than in a small one, so that limit is reached sooner. And as always, the figure describes what the lid withstands; it does not replace validating the food, the headspace and each packer's actual cycle.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
This is a lid for preserving jars and large containers, not for a honey jar going on a shelf: for the usual honey finishes, look at TO 63 and TO 77. And if the jar comes from elsewhere, check that its finish really is 110 with eight lugs before ordering.
