Advantages of the Layens hive:

The Layens hive offers simpler management since no additional supers are required. Additionally, the lid, attached by hinges, provides quick and easy access to the inside of the hive.

Disadvantages:

This type of hive offers less versatility in management techniques compared to vertical hives like the Langstroth. It is also less efficient for producing monofloral honeys. Although it can be adapted to include supers, this is not its primary use. Beekeepers looking to optimize honey production in large quantities may find limitations with this system.

Additionally, you can choose between the standard Layens hive or two painted finishes: standard gray or special sand paint, which provides much more protection against weather conditions. The latter is highly recommended for those looking to maximize the hive's durability.
