Half super for 10 half frames for the Layens hive, in Spanish Albar pine air-dried for three years.

The half super answers the weight problem of the Layens: a full super loaded with honey is awkward to shift on your own, and at half the height it comes off in one go without splitting the harvest into two operations.

01 · TIMBER

Three years of air drying is what stops it moving later

It is made from Spanish Albar pine grown on shaded slopes, slow-growing, and air-dried for three years rather than kiln-dried. That is the difference you notice over time: timber cured slowly works less with humidity, and the box keeps its square season after season — which is what stacking supers properly depends on.

02 · CAPACITY

Slightly wider frames, more honey per frame

The half frames are a little wider than usual, so each one stores somewhat more honey and the set yields more than the frame count suggests. Internal dimensions are 48.5 × 34.5 cm, and the frames measure 36 × 16.5 cm.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is Layens, and Layens is not interchangeable

The Layens frame does not fit Dadant or Langstroth, nor the other way round: the format decides. If your apiary is Layens, this half super mounts straight on; if it is any other type, there is no adapting it.
