Folding Langstroth nuc box in polypropylene for five frames: cheap enough to leave one in the van and light enough to carry a swarm home in it.

It arrives flat and unassembled. Flat is the point — a stack of these takes almost no room in the store until the day you need them.

01 · MATERIAL

Polypropylene, and why that matters to the bees

The body is polypropylene: odourless, so it does not put the swarm off, and stable enough outdoors to sit through weather. It also holds heat reasonably well, which is what lets a small colony keep its own temperature while it settles. With sensible care one box lasts several seasons, and it can be recycled at the end.

02 · ASSEMBLY

No glue, and under three minutes

It folds into shape without glue or adhesive of any kind. A staple gun to firm up the joints is worth having, though: it is what turns a folded box into one you can carry full. There is room designed in between the frames and the lid for a feed patty, without fighting the closure.

03 · FIT

The lug rest bends to your frames

The ledge the frame lugs sit on can be bent about a centimetre either way, so the same box takes the different Langstroth frame sizes you may already have in the apiary rather than forcing you to one supplier.

How is the Ridenuc® Langstroth nuc assembled?
Lay the nuc flat and pre-fold all crease lines. Start with the lid: fold its edges and insert the tabs. Then raise the side and end panels, locking each joint into its slots. Form and lock the ledges that support the frame lugs, then close the side tabs. No glue is needed. For extra strength, fit one 12 mm staple on each side; adhesive hook-and-loop dots can also secure the lid against wind. The Technical data section includes the illustrated step-by-step manual.
