Rearing queens starts with somewhere to hang them.
This Dadant US rearing frame carries two removable horizontal bars on which the cups are mounted, so the colony raises them all at once and you can lift them out without dismantling anything. Pine timber in the Dadant US measure — 48 × 30 cm — and it drops into any Dadant US brood box like an ordinary frame.
01 · COMPATIBILITY
The bars take both cup systems in common use, NICOT and JZBZ, so you are not tied to one maker. Cups you already own keep working, and if you switch systems the frame does not become obsolete.
02 · CAPACITY
Each bar takes up to 15 NICOT cup-holder blocks, or cup bars if that is how you work. With both bars you have room for a full series: graft, hang the frame in the starter, and ten days later lift the ripe cells out one at a time without disturbing their neighbours.
03 · CONSTRUCTION
Both bars come out without tools. That lets you prepare the grafting at a table, sitting comfortably and in good light, and carry only the loaded bar to the apiary. It also makes end-of-season cleaning easier: take them out, scrape the wax and store them apart.
04 · THE SIZE
This is the Dadant US format, with a 48 cm top bar, the one commonly used in Spain. It does not fit Dadant Blatt hives of 47 cm, the French and Italian standard: that single centimetre is enough for the frame not to seat. If your equipment is French, check the top bar before ordering.
