Details of Reversible Honey Extractor 12/24 Frames LYSON CLASSIC

If you run 300+ hives, share a honey house with a co-op or extract for several beekeepers, there comes a point where the ⌀1200 with 8 baskets falls short and you need the next step up. This ⌀1200 mm automatic reversible with 12 universal baskets is the PRO model of the CLASSIC line: same HE-02N electronics as its siblings, but with a taller and thicker drum, heavier basket rod, a motor twice as powerful, a sturdier lid, and a 5-year warranty on the drum structure. Built for long harvests, difficult honeys and work rates that don’t forgive.

🔄 12 universal reversible baskets: 50% more frames per spin

Same principle as the smaller siblings, but with a basket that takes 12 brood frames (Layens, Dadant US, Dadant Blatt, Langstroth, National or Commercial) or 24 supers per load. Each frame sits in its own slot, the drum automatically reverses direction and springs return the baskets to position with no manual intervention. Internal dividers stop honey thrown off one frame from splashing the next: cleaner extraction and faster turnaround between batches.

🔧 0.8 mm drum × 780 mm tall and ⌀3/⌀6 stainless basket

The step up to the PRO version shows before you switch it on: food-grade 0.8 mm stainless steel drum (a third thicker than the 0.6 mm of the standard models) standing 780 mm tall internally, with a reinforced peripheral frame. The inner basket is built from ⌀3 mm and ⌀6 mm stainless rods, mounted on double anchorage (upper and lower bearings). The result: the assembly stays rigid even with unbalanced 24-frame loads or heavy heather combs, without flexing the drum or amplifying vibration.

⚙️ HE-02N controller: 2 manual modes + 20 automatic programmes

LCD display, physical buttons and a Mitsubishi vector inverter driving the electronics. The 2 manual modes (M-1, M-2) are for direct operation: you start, adjust the speed with the buttons, and stop at your own pace. The 10 A programmes (A-1 to A-10) are automatic factory presets tuned to the drum diameter: you set total cycle time and top speed, and the controller splits the run into 4 or 6 steps. The 10 B programmes (B-1 to B-10) are automatic cycles that you design yourself: you define time, speed and direction for every step of the 7-step cycle (minimum 5 seconds between steps); once saved, a B runs on its own exactly like an A.

It also offers 4 special modes for dense honey (standard, extended time +, increased speed %, combined ✱), an operating-hours counter, and an emergency stop that halts the motor if the lid is opened or the e-stop button is pressed.

💡 How to set the cycle to match honey viscosity

A-group programmes default to around 3 minutes, built for dense or crystallising honeys (heather, chestnut, late eucalyptus). For those, stick with the A programmes and engage the extended-time (+) or combined (✱) special mode to fully clear the cappings.

For thin, free-flowing honeys (oil seed rape, acacia, early spring eucalyptus, fresh sunflower, lime blossom), the comb drains fast and the later steps of the cycle largely spin without pulling honey, wearing down the motor and the frames. For these, set a B-group programme with short steps (10-20 seconds each, alternating direction), rising speed, and stop the cycle as soon as honey stops flowing from the gates.

The number of steps is fixed by the inverter and cannot be reduced — what you do control end to end is the time and the speed of every step, which is where the real lever sits.

🍯 0.75 kW motor, two 2" gates and professional honey-house draining

The bottom-mounted gear motor is 0.75 kW (750 W) on single-phase 230 V — twice the power of the 8-basket models — to start 24-frame loads without strain and hold extraction speed steady on dense honeys. Two 2" stainless honey gates on opposite sides of the drum let you drain into two ripeners in parallel. 5 mm acrylic lid with automatic stop on opening, soft PVC anti-vibration pads that absorb the imbalances typical of mixed loads, sturdy powder-coated legs tall enough to fit a 25 kg pail or a ripener under the gate.

⚠️ What to bear in mind before buying

This is the largest cassette extractor in the CLASSIC line — you’ll need room in the honey house (⌀1200 mm × 780 mm tall just for the drum, plus legs), a level floor, a stable 230 V supply and a ripener with enough capacity to absorb what it puts out: at full load that’s 24 supers per cycle. Ships fully assembled on a pallet; have a pallet truck or a hand ready for unloading.

The drum structure carries a 5-year warranty (electronics and motor under standard 2-year Lyson cover). If your volume is smaller (50-200 hives) and you only run Dadant/Langstroth, the ⌀1000 W205600 will work out better value; if you sit between the two sizes, the ⌀1200 with 8 baskets W205500_ES is the middle step.
