01 · HOW YOU HARVEST

No opening, no pulling frames, no extractor

The Flow frames in the super hold a split comb which, on turning a key, shifts and opens a channel down which the honey runs to the tap and into the jar.

The hive has a slight built-in tilt so the channel drains fully, and you harvest frame by frame: there is no need to empty the whole super at once.

02 · BEFORE OPENING THE TAP

The windows are not decoration

The side observation windows have a specific job: checking that the honey is capped before you open. If it is not, what comes out carries more water than it should, and above 18-20 % it ferments.

The other limit is worth having clear before buying: honey that crystallises inside the comb will not come out of a tap. With oilseed rape or sunflower this is not the right system.

03 · WHAT STAYS THE SAME

The brood box is worked by hand

Underneath sits a brood box with ordinary wooden frames: you inspect it, treat varroa, watch for swarming and feed exactly as in any hive. The Flow system touches none of that.

The screened floor helps with pest management, but it is one tool, not a substitute for handling. Whoever starts with this hive starts becoming a beekeeper the same as with any other.

04 · THE WOOD

Hoop pine, and two coats outside

It is made in Australia by precision laser cutting, in locally sourced hoop pine. It is a stable timber, but it needs exterior paint — two coats — to stand the weather.

Paint the outside only and let it dry properly before populating it. As for the honey from the tap, it has passed through no filter and no settling tank: if you want it settled, that step is still yours.

It is the same direct-extraction principle as the other tap systems in the catalogue; what differs is the format and the timber.
