04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Before ordering, do the capacity sum: 1.7 litres is for stimulation, not for covering stores. It suits a start-up top-up or keeping a small colony going between visits, but if you need seven or eight kilos of wintering syrup in there, you need another format. And the usual rule: do not feed during the flow if you intend to harvest that honey for sale. And check that the surface it rests on is level and clean before filling: a low-profile feeder that tips spills into the nest, and syrup on the hive floor means robbing.
