Details of Top Feeder for Quarti® poly nucs

A polystyrene top feeder, made to sit on Quarti® 6-frame nucs of the same material.

It rests above, in the roof space, so you feed without opening the nest or taking a frame away from a colony that needs every bit of room it has.

01 · FEEDING

The bell decides whether you give syrup or fondant

With the bell in place, the bees come up underneath it and drink from the edge without falling into the liquid: that is the mode for syrup, which is where badly fed colonies drown. Take the bell out and the same tray is left open for solid feed — fondant or patty — laid straight on top. One accessory for both cases, with nothing else about the nuc to change.

02 · USE

When it earns its place on a nuc

A 6-frame nuc has little reserve and few bees: any gap in the flow, a recent split or a thin run into autumn shows up sooner than in a full colony. Feeding from above lets you read the level at a glance and top up without smoke or dismantling, which on small nucs is half an inspection saved. What you should not do is feed with a super on during the flow: the syrup ends up where it should not.
