TO 48 FINISH · GPI 2010 | 25 LIDS PER PACK |
The small finish in the catalogue: a 48 mm twist-off lid in plain gold, for small jars and bottles.
Four lugs and a GPI 2010 glass finish. Pack of 25.
01 · COMPATIBILITY
It closes the 500 ml Frescor bottle, the two containers with a 48 finish in the catalogue. Watch the Diamond, because it comes in two sizes that do not share a finish: the 500 g is TO 48, but the 300 g is TO 43. Same family, same look, five millimetres you cannot judge by eye. If you keep both in the store, sort the lids by size rather than by brand.
02 · THE THINNEST GAUGE IN THE RANGE
It is the lightest gauge in the whole twist-off series, against the 0.19 mm of a large-jar lid. The reason is geometric: the stiffness of a disc drops sharply as the diameter grows, so 0.14 mm spread over 48 mm makes a firmer lid than 0.19 mm spread over 110. In the hand that means two things: it closes with very little torque — no need to force it — and it dents easily if left loose in a drawer. Worth keeping them in their bag until you fill.
03 · WHAT IS INSIDE IT
A twist-off lid is three layers: the tinplate, a food-grade inner lacquer chosen according to the product being packed, and the sealing compound in the ring, which is what gaskets against the glass rim. The manufacturer's full specification and the declaration of compliance for food contact are attached to this very page, in the downloads tab: they carry the declared composition and the permitted heat treatment, and that is the source to point to if a customer or an audit asks.
FROM THE APIARY
A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the four lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
This is a small-jar lid: for honey jars going on a shelf the usual finishes are TO 63 and TO 77. For production runs, this reference also comes as a full box of 2,300 lids.
