Ø 710 mm DRUM DIAMETER | 15 / 27 LANGSTROTH / SUPERS |
150 W MOTOR WITH PROGRAMMER | 40 kg EMPTY WEIGHT |
A 15-frame radial with automatic programming: the machine that stops asking for your attention while you carry on uncapping.
The TIGUAN is an Italian radial extractor of 710 mm in 18/10 stainless steel, with a cage for 15 Langstroth frames or 27 supers. The difference from a tangential is not only capacity: in a radial layout the frames sit like the spokes of a wheel and empty from both faces at once, so there is no taking them out and turning them halfway through. With the programme set, you load, start and go back to the uncapping tray.
01 · EXTRACTION
In a radial the comb sits radially to the shaft, and centrifugal force empties both faces during the same cycle. That removes the handling that eats half the time on a tangential. Worth spelling out, because we are asked: it is not a reversible. A reversible flips its cassettes to work each face; here there is nothing to flip, because the radial layout already works both. In exchange, a radial asks for a little more patience with thick honeys: start slowly and build up in stages, especially on new wax.
02 · CONTROL
The motor runs on alternating current with a friction brake and carries electronic regulation and an automatic programmer: you set the cycle and the machine repeats it load after load, without depending on who is standing at it. That is what turns an extraction day into a workflow: while the drum runs its cycle, you uncap the next batch. The brake stops the cage at the end rather than leaving it coasting.
03 · SAFETY
The lid safety system blocks access until the drum has come to a halt. With 15 frames loaded and a 710 mm cage in motion, the stored energy is not a detail: it is why this interlock is part of the design rather than an accessory. Working with the machine running and the lid open is not an option on this extractor, which is exactly what you want in a honey house with more than one person around.
04 · CONSTRUCTION
Body and cage in top-grade 18/10 stainless steel, with a 50 mm stainless honey gate — wider than the 40 mm usual on the small models, which is what keeps it from becoming the bottleneck once you are working at volume. The motor runs at 220 V through a 30 V transformer, rated 150 W. The drum measures 710 mm across and 400 mm tall, and the unit weighs 40 kg empty.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A radial performs with supers and free-flowing honeys; that is its ground. For brood frames — Dadant or Layens — it is not the machine: those frames are taller, they do not fit this cage, and even where they fit a radial they empty poorly towards the top. The height limit here is 235 mm on supers. Before deciding, measure your honey house too: 710 mm of drum plus room to work around it does not fit in any corner.
