01 · WHAT IT REPLACES

The cover and its closing system, in one piece

It is not just the top board: the part comes with the catches fitted, and those are usually the first thing to break when the nuc travels or when a lid that no longer seats gets forced. Replacing it restores the assembly that keeps the box shut, with no loose fittings to adjust.

02 · HOW TO CHECK THE FIT

Langstroth and Dadant name the frame, not the perimeter

This is the mistake that causes most returns on spares: both names describe frame measurements, not the outer shape of the box, and two nucs of the same format can have different bodies. Measure the lid you are taking off — length, width and the thickness of the rim — and compare as well the position and direction of the catches, which is usually where the difference lies even when the perimeter matches.

03 · CHECK THE BODY TOO

A new lid will not fix a sagging edge

Before fitting it, run your hand along the top edge of the nuc. If it is swollen, eaten away or out of true, the new lid will not close either and you will have damp inside again. In HDF the edge degrades from knocks and from trapped moisture: if that is the state of it, the spare you need is not the lid.
