5,4 mm STANDARD CELL | 61-66 °C MELTING POINT |
6 FORMATS | 0,5 % MAX. IMPURITIES |
Wax foundation embossed at the standard 5.4 mm cell, sold by the sheet, in six formats.
Wax collected from beekeepers across Spain. One ingredient — beeswax — and a short process: centrifuged, washed, melted and filtered before embossing.
01 · WHICH SIZE?
The sheet goes inside the frame, so what decides is the format of your frame, not the name of the hive.
| Dadant 27 × 42 | Dadant brood frame. |
|---|---|
| Langstroth 20 × 42 | Langstroth frame, brood or super. |
| Shallow 13 × 42 | Dadant and Langstroth supers. |
| Layens 30 × 35 | Layens hive, deep frame. |
| Dadant Blatt 26 × 41 | European Dadant Blatt. |
| Lusitana 26 × 33 | Lusitana hive. |
02 · PROCESS
It is centrifuged, washed and melted above 100 °C; decanting happens at 80 °C and then it is filtered. What we are not going to tell you is that it comes out free of impurities: the data sheet itself allows up to 0.5 %, which is normal in sheeted wax and what filtering lets through. Acidity, saponification and hydrocarbon figures are in the downloadable data sheet.
03 · HANDLING
A sheet starts to soften around 61 °C, and the back of a van in August goes past that. In summer it may arrive slightly warped; it recovers if you leave it flat, in the shade, with a little weight on top for a few hours. Cold does the opposite: it turns brittle and a corner snaps easily. To fit it, embed it into the frame wire by warming the wire with a transformer.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is sold by the sheet, not in 5 kg packs. And measure the height of your frame: some Dadant frames are 41.5 cm while the sheet comes at 42, so half a centimetre may need trimming off.
| ✓ FITS | All six formats above, according to the frame you are fitting. |

Yes. They are 100 % beeswax, the same wax as the 5 kg pack, and they work both ways: rolled cold around a wick, or melted and poured into a mould. For rolling, choose the flexible sheet, which bends without cracking; the rigid one snaps when folded. For melting the type does not matter: what counts is the weight, and a sheet weighs between 90 and 125 g depending on the format. There is no “candle” cut size: pick the one that matches the candle length you want.
