This helmet is adjustable, lightweight, and waterproof, offering you a more comfortable experience. Rigid plastic helmet will not lose its shape.
Rigid plastic pith helmet, light and waterproof, with a chin strap and ventilation holes. One size, adjustable.
The helmet does not protect you: what protects you is the veil not touching you. That is its whole job, and it is why a good hood still wants a rigid brim over it.
01 · WHAT A HELMET IS FOR
A bee stings through the veil when the fabric is pressed against your face or neck. The helmet holds the cloth away all round the head, and that is why the rigid brim matters more than the material: it keeps the veil off your nose when you look down.
02 · THE STRAP AND THE VENTS
The chin strap is what stops the helmet shifting as you bend over a hive — precisely when the veil ends up on your face. The ventilation holes handle the other half: in a suit, the head is where heat builds up first.
03 · THE COLOUR MATTERS TOO
It is rigid plastic, light and waterproof, and it washes with water. What is worth keeping is the light shade: bees respond worse to dark, furry silhouettes — that is how they recognise a predator — and that is why beekeeping kit is pale.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is the helmet only: the veil or the hood is bought separately and fitted over it.
