Full pallet of 1,152 Saldae jars of 520 ml, the large jar with a smooth body, rounded shoulder and wide Twist-Off 66 mouth: 94 mm across, 130 high and 250 g empty, about 320 kg of pallet to bottle in the order of 800 kg of honey in 700 g jars. The mouth is standard low-skirt TO66: one case of 1,310 lids covers the whole pallet. No lids; the same jar in a pack of 16 (2848).

A 700 g jar usually has a narrow mouth; the Saldae puts a 66 mouth on a 94 body, and with creamed honey that is the spoon reaching the bottom.

01 · THE JAR

520 ml with a wide mouth that are 700 g

A smooth body without honeycomb or relief, rounded shoulder and a 66 mm mouth almost as wide as a half-kilo jar’s, on a jar 94 mm across and 130 high: it fills fast from the tank or the filler without honey dribbling down the neck, the spoon reaches the bottom and the rim wipes clean in one pass. With honey at 1.4 kg per litre and eight to ten millimetres of headspace under the lid, the 520 ml are about 700 g: the format between the half kilo and the kilo. The label sticks flat anywhere on the body, or it takes a shrink sleeve.

02 · THE LID

Standard TO66: low skirt, not the Deep

The mouth is ordinary 66 mm Twist-Off with a low skirt: the house rule is that if the jar’s name does not say tall neck, Deep or DTO, the lid is the low one. In packs of 25 there are bee (3139), honeycomb (3140), gold (3141), black (3142) and bronze (3280); for the pallet, cases of 1,310 in gold (3204), black (3205), honeycomb (3206), bee (3207) and bronze (3283): one case covers the 1,152 jars with 158 to spare. The high-skirt DTO66 (3145, 3208-3210) belongs to the tall-neck jars and does not close here. And honey makes no vacuum: a lid that does not click is not a defect.

03 · THE PALLET

1,152 jars, 320 kg and truck access

1,152 jars come palletised and shrink-wrapped: at 250 g each, about 320 kg gross, to bottle in the order of 800 kg of honey. It is the unit of the producer selling a 700 g format in shops and markets who does not want to run out of jars mid-season; freight per jar is far lower than in packs, and glass, kept dry and wrapped, does not expire. It ships by pallet carrier, with truck access and a covered spot to unload. To try, or for a few hundred kilos, the pack of 16 (2848).

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The pallet of jars is supplied without lids; standard TO66 lids (packs 3139-3142 and 3280, cases 3204-3207 and 3283) come separately.

✓ FITS	Producers and cooperatives selling in 700 g and bottling in the order of 800 kg a season, above all creamed or set honey.
✕ DOESN’T FIT	Anyone with high-skirt DTO66 lids: they do not close on this mouth. For a few hundred kilos, the pack of 16 (2848).
