Pallet of 1,575 Orcio jars of 720 ml with a TO 82 finish: nearly a tonne and a half of honey packed.

The sum worth doing before ordering it. Each jar takes about 970 grams of honey, so the full pallet is 1,528 kilos. And it calls for 1,575 caps, which do not come inside. If the season does not reach that figure, the pallet just sits in the store.

01 · 720 ML IS NOT 970 GRAMS BY CHANCE

Brimful capacity and real filling are not the same

The jar holds 720 ml to the brim, but nobody fills to the brim. At a normal fill it takes about 970 grams of honey, and that is the figure to work with for labelling and for planning the season.

The glass weighs 310 grams a unit. With 1,575 jars the pallet goes past 480 kilos in glass alone: not a package you move by hand or take through any doorway.

02 · THE LIDS ARE SEPARATE: THREE BOXES

The costliest ordering mistake on this product

The finish is TO 82 and the caps are not included. Do the arithmetic when you order: our boxes of TO 82 caps hold 750 units, so a pallet of 1,575 jars calls for three boxes, or two plus loose packs to cover the remaining 75.

Running short of caps with the pallet already in the store is the silliest way to stop a packing run.

03 · TO 82 IS A STANDARD, NOT A BRAND

The same cap fits four other jars

The TO 82 finish is shared by several 720 ml and one-kilo containers in the catalogue. That means you can change the shape of the jar from one season to the next without touching the capping machine or throwing away your stock of caps.

So choosing the Orcio is a decision about image, not about the line: the crock is a recognisable traditional-product shape and the clear glass shows the honey, which is what the counter customer buys.
