Twenty minutes, and the only hot thing is the water

The process is melt and pour: the glycerine base is melted in a water bath, the wax, the honey and a few drops of essential oil go in, it is poured into the mould with the flowers and left to set. Around twenty minutes of work, and the rest is waiting.

The box holds a silicone mould with 6 hexagonal cavities (160 × 220 × 21 mm), 0.5 kg of glycerine base, 10 g of beeswax, honey, essential oil, dried lavender and calendula, a wooden spatula, greaseproof paper, string and instructions.

02 · WHAT EACH INGREDIENT ADDS

To the bar, not to the skin

The wax hardens the bar and makes it last longer in the dish: a plain glycerine soap wears away fast when it sits wet. The honey darkens slightly with heat and is what gives the amber tone. The dried flowers are decoration: the ones left on the surface brown with use, so they look better set into the body of the bar.

The essential oil is the scent, and it is the ingredient that asks for restraint: a few drops are enough, and it is the one that can bother sensitive skin. The kit is meant to be done with children, but the hot-water step is an adult's, and the result is soap, not food, however much honey it carries.
