Details of Honeycomb Heart Silicone Mould

Silicone mould in the shape of a heart with a honeycomb relief. The finished piece is 6.5 × 4.7 × 2 cm and around 50 g of soap.

It works for soap and for wax. Not for food: once it has made soap or wax, it does not go back to the kitchen.

01 · FOR SOAP AND WAX, NOT FOR FOOD

Silicone keeps what it has touched

The maker also presents it for chocolate and baking, and it is worth being plain about that: silicone absorbs fats, surfactants and fragrances, and a film of wax survives the dishwasher. A mould that has made soap or wax does not go back to food.

02 · 50 G OF SOAP, 38 OF WAX

What a kilo yields

Each piece weighs around 50 g in soap, depending on how full you pour it. In beeswax, which is less dense, the same cavity gives about 38 g: roughly 26 pieces per kilo of wax. That is the figure for costing a market batch or a run of favours.

03 · THE RELIEF RULES THE DEMOULDING

Cold, and without forcing

What you are buying is the honeycomb, and it is the first thing lost if you demould warm. Let it cool right through — the fridge if you are in a hurry — and push it out from the base. With wax you pour at 70 to 75 °C, because above 85 °C it darkens.

Neither the soap base nor the colourant is included, and you need both.
