When you have to remove a Vespa velutina nest or deal with the European hornet, the gap between a standard beekeeping suit and a proper intervention kit becomes obvious at the first sting. The Asian hornet's stinger exceeds 5 mm and goes straight through the thin fabrics designed for honey bees, the classic mesh veils and the soft leather gloves. This suit is a Category II PPE complete set (suit + helmet with face shield + gloves), built for emergency services, pest control teams and beekeepers who tackle nest removal themselves: more manageable than a full firefighter rig, well above any conventional bee suit.
Multilayer barrier: why the stinger never reaches your skin
Three layers form a safety chamber between the stinger and the body: outer fabric of 60% cotton / 40% polyester at 240–250 g/m², quilted padding of 100% polyester at 200 g/m² and an inner lining. Certified EN 388 figures confirm puncture resistance of 45.06 N, tear strength of 29.88 N and seam strength of 244 N (EN ISO 13935-2); well above any single-layer fabric.
Reinforcements where it hurts. In the areas that take most of the punishment when you work kneeling or up a ladder —knees, shins, elbows and shoulders— the suit carries a second skin of 100% cotton at 380 g/m² in contrasting grey. That is where stings concentrate when you lean towards the nest and where suits usually fail from abrasion against bark, branches or metal structures. The manufacturer estimates service life up to 10 years with proper use.
Structured hood with rigid face shield. The face assembly is the critical area against Vespa velutina, which directs stings and even sprays venom at the face. The hood integrates a helmet certified to EN 397 with class 0 electrical insulation to EN 50365, useful when working near power lines or electrical cabinets. The polycarbonate face shield is certified to EN 166 and EN 170: a rigid shield rather than mesh, with no fibres the stinger can pass through. Wide peripheral vision and compatible with prescription glasses underneath.
Gloves included, sealed at the wrist. Coated gloves certified to EN 388, EN ISO 374-1 type B and EN ISO 374-5 (mechanical resistance plus chemical and microbial protection), joined to the suit by an elastic cuff so no skin is exposed between sleeve and glove. Central front zip, elasticated waist and, at the ankles, elastic with under-foot strap: the trouser leg will not ride up as you walk through undergrowth or climb a ladder, and no worker can get in from below.
Important — glove sizes included
Each suit ships with a pair of gloves matched to its size:
• Sizes S and M → gloves M/8
• Sizes L and XL → gloves L/9
• Sizes XXL and XXXL → gloves XL/10
If you need a different glove size, state it in the order comments and we will swap them before dispatch. No PPE guarantees full protection: always check fasteners, zips and seams before every intervention.
Materials free from harmful and allergenic substances and from azo dyes per EU regulations, pH 3.5–9.5, machine washable up to 60 °C. Stitched in Poland with quality control at every production stage and designed and field-tested in collaboration with Étienne Roumailhac (EtienneLGF), French beekeeper specialised in Asian hornet nest removal.
