Galvanised metal catch that screws to the lid and locks it to the hive.
On the move — and on any transport — the lid is the first thing to shift. This catch anchors it to the wooden band on the body, so it cannot tip off or work loose on the road.
01 · BUILD
A 10 g galvanised steel fitting, made to live outdoors on top of the hive without rusting. It is sold singly, and a hive normally takes more than one: work out how many you need before ordering.
02 · ASSEMBLY
It is screwed to the lid and hooks onto the wooden band around the top of the body. That anchoring is what stops the lid lifting or coming loose in transit.
03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
That is the only condition that matters: the catch needs the wooden band around the top of the body to anchor to. Stationary hives do not have one, and there the fitting has nothing to grip.
