60 MIN, PASTEURISATION

Box of 620 Twist-Off TO 70 silver deep-skirt metal lids, food-contact approved and pasteurisable.

The box of 620 is the format for jarring in series: the unit price drops and you do not run out halfway through a run.

01 · COMPATIBILITY

The TO figure names the mouth, not the jar's outside diameter

TO 70 is the name of the Twist-Off mouth, on a GPI 2035 profile, with four closing lugs. Measuring the outside of the jar tells you nothing: a jar of similar diameter but with a different number of lugs or a different mouth height will not close properly, and you only find out when it loses vacuum. This version is deep skirt: the skirt covers more of the jar neck, so it only goes on jars meant for that profile. From our catalogue, it fits the tall-neck Aura jars: 250 ml, 350 and 445 ml. Watch out for two neighbours of the same diameter: the 390 ml hexagonal is a standard-neck TO70 and takes the low skirt, and the GLAM 300 and 700 have an extra-tall neck and need the H18. Neither is interchangeable with this cap.

02 · PASTEURISATION

The limit belongs to the lid, not to the whole process

The datasheet declares pasteurisation up to 100 °C for 60 minutes. That figure says what the lid withstands, not that any heat treatment is validated: temperature, time, vacuum, sealing compound, product and jar are validated as one system. And within a single run it is unwise to mix lids from different batches or profiles.

03 · STORAGE

What degrades is the sealing compound

The gasket that seals against the glass is the delicate part, and it goes before the metal does. Keep the lids in their packaging, clean and dry, between 5 and 35 °C and below 70 % relative humidity; the documentation sets two years as the maximum unless specifically approved. Avoid knocks on the skirt and stacks that deform the lugs: a bent lug will not seal even if the lid looks intact.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the four lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The sales unit is 620 silver deep-skirt lids. Before ordering, check your jar's mouth: the TO reference is what governs.
