01 · COMPATIBILITY

TO 77 does not mean “roughly 77 mm”

The jar needs a TO 77 Twist-Off neck with a GPI 2040 finish. Measuring the outer diameter with a ruler is not enough: the glass profile and lug positions must match so the lid engages and compresses the sealing compound evenly. If you change jar model, run a real closure test before production.

02 · PROCESS

The lid withstands the cycle; the whole pack makes the seal

The specification states pasteurisation up to 100 °C for 60 minutes. That limit alone does not guarantee vacuum or a hermetic seal: the filled product, filling temperature, headspace, closing torque and condition of the neck all matter. Set these parameters on your line and test the finished jar.

03 · STORAGE

Protect the sealing compound before filling

Store the cases between 5 and 35 °C at no more than 70% relative humidity, away from condensation, dust and odours. The specification sets a maximum storage period of two years under these conditions. Keep the lids packed until use and avoid loads that could distort their rims.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the six lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Confirm the neck, process and case quantity

The sales unit contains 950 lids. Each tinplate lid has six lugs and a nominal weight of 11.60 g, with a 5% tolerance. Before ordering volume, confirm a TO 77/GPI 2040 jar and validate a complete filling, capping, pasteurising and cooling cycle.
