01 · THE PRINT

It survives the pasteurising bath without losing colour

Tecnocap rates the lid for pasteurising up to 100 °C for 60 minutes, and the print is made for that cycle: bottle it, boil it, and the bee is still there. That is what separates it from a plain lid with a sticker, which in the same bath peels. For anyone selling at market, it is the cheapest way to identify the jar without going to a printer.

02 · WHICH JARS IT FITS

Every TO 77 jar in the catalogue

It fits the 0.5 kg plain V370 jar, the 1 kg honeycomb, the plain V720, the V580 ml jar, the quarter-gallon (900 ml) jar and the 12REF 347 ml and 16REF 445 ml jars. If your jar is from another supplier, check the mouth is TO 77 with a GPI 2040 finish: a similar diameter is not enough.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the six lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

This pack is 25 lids; the same model comes in a box of 950, which is where the unit price drops. In TO 77 there are also gold, silver, white, bronze, black and honeycomb if you prefer plain.
