A full pallet of 936 Apiari 1 kg jars: 746 ml glass with a TO 82 deep finish, the format for putting a kilo of honey into a jar that does not look like warehouse stock.
A pallet is not a bigger box: it is a different way of buying. It changes the unit price, it changes where you can have it dropped off, and it changes what you have to order separately before you can fill anything.
01 · WHY 746 ML IS 1 KG
A litre of honey weighs about 1.4 kg, not one. That is why the «1 kg» jar holds 746 ml: multiplied by 1.4 it comes to a little over a kilo, which is what you need for the scale to show the declared net weight without filling the jar to the very brim.
It is the same reason a 380 ml jar is sold as a 500 g one. Compare jars by millilitres instead of by kilos of honey and the numbers never add up.
02 · THE LID
The finish is TO 82 deep, and that second word is what decides. A standard-skirt TO 82 cap has the same diameter but less skirt height: it is not the cap this finish calls for, and that is where the seal is lost.
The pallet does not include caps: you need 936, one per jar, and it is worth ordering them together with the glass so the pallet does not sit idle in the shed.
One filling note that saves complaints: honey is jarred cold and pulls no vacuum, so the button on the lid does not pop down. That is not a faulty cap.
03 · HOW IT ARRIVES
A pallet of 936 glass jars weighs on the order of 400 kg. That does not come off a lorry by hand: you need an address with a loading bay, a forklift or a pallet truck, or a delivery with a tail lift. Check it before ordering, because a delivery that cannot be unloaded goes back.
The pallet arrives as stacked boxes. Shipping boxes for your own customers, if you need them, are a separate item.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A pallet pays off when you really are filling jars; below that, the glass just takes up room.
