Details of Plastic honey gate 2″ 50/60

A tap's size is not worked out from the tank's litres: you measure the hole in the wall. Measure it before ordering.

Plastic guillotine tap of 2 inches, with a male thread, hexagonal locking nut and gasket. For settling tanks, extractors, tanks and drums.

01 · WHY A GUILLOTINE

And not a ball valve

In a ball valve the honey stays inside the ball cavity and there is no way to get it out without dismantling. A guillotine is different: a flat gate that slides across a straight bore, with no recesses.

That gives you the two things honey asks for: a clear bore, so thick or crystallising honey comes out without being throttled, and cleaning that amounts to opening it fully and running hot water through.

02 · THE SIZE

The hole decides, not the drum

A tap is named by its nominal bore — here 2 inches, DN50 — but what has to fit is the thread that passes through the tank wall. That is the dimension to check with a tape measure before buying.

The internal bore is 48 mm, consistent with DN50. If your tank already has a tap, the quick way to know is to measure the hole with the old tap removed.

03 · HOW IT FITS

Thread inside, nut outside

Pass the male thread through the hole from inside the tank with the gasket seated against the wall, and tighten the hexagonal nut on the outside. No tape or sealant is needed: the gasket is what seals.

A firm hand-tightening is usually enough. Overdoing it with a wrench deforms the plastic gasket, and that is what causes the drip that never ends.

04 · THE COLOUR

Orange, white or grey, as available

The tap is supplied in whatever colour is in stock — orange, white or grey — because it is the same part in all three. If you need one specific colour so the whole workshop matches, tell us before ordering.

The plastic cleans easily and is not pitted by the acidity of honey, which is why in beekeeping plastic competes on equal terms with stainless steel for taps.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is the tap with its gasket and nut:
