Details of Stainless Steel Adapter for Lyson Slide Valves

Stainless steel adapter that turns the slide-valve outlet of a Lyson extractor or settling tank into a male thread, ready for a pump or a hose.

What decides compatibility is not the diameter: it is the bolts. The two versions differ in the centre distance of the flange — 72 or 91 mm — and in the bolt, M6 or M10. That is the measurement to take before ordering.

01 · THE TWO VERSIONS

Centred M6/72 mm or off-centre M10/91 mm

ModelThreadBoltsCentre distance
Centred1 ½" (DN40)M672 mm
Off-centre2" (DN50)M1091 mm

These are the two that are made and the two you will find in the drop-down. If your outlet is DN32 (1 ¼"), neither of them covers it.

And the equivalences are worth having straight, because in a honey house the same size travels under three names: DN40 = 1 ½" = 6/4" = 40 mm. It is the bore of the settling-tank tap, of the transfer pump and of the small wax melter.

02 · HOW IT GOES ON

It replaces the valve without touching the tank

It is fixed by an oval flange with through holes: you take out the bolts of the original slide valve, put the adapter in its place and are left with a male thread facing outwards.

Nothing is welded, drilled or modified on the equipment, and it is reversible: you can go back to the standard valve whenever it suits.

03 · WHAT COMES AFTER

A male thread, so a female ball coupling

The usual honey-house chain is adapter → ball coupling → lever quick-release → food-grade hose, and that is where almost everyone gets it wrong.

The gender of the coupling runs the other way round to the equipment's: since this adapter ends in a male thread, its partner is the female coupling. Ordering the male one is a guaranteed return.

04 · MATERIAL AND FLOW

Food-grade stainless, and the bore rules

It is made of food-grade stainless steel, which is what a part in direct contact with honey calls for and what stands up to repeated cleaning without pitting.

One note on installation: the flow rate is set by the narrowest point in the whole circuit. Fitting a 2" adapter with a 40 hose behind it does not give you 2" of flow, and with cold honey the difference is very noticeable.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Measure the flange on your valve: centre distance and bolt diameter. That is what you choose on, not the name of the extractor.

✓ FITSA Lyson extractor or settling tank with a slide valve you want to hook a pump or hose to.
✕ DOESN'T FITIf your outlet is DN32 (1 ¼"): there is no model for that size.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDThe ball coupling, the quick-release and the hose are bought separately.
