01 · THE DIAMETER

625 mm is the 400 kg tank, not the drum

This is the question that reaches us: this is not the strainer for the 300 kg drum. That one is around 565 mm and has its own reference in the catalogue. Both are full-mouth and look alike in a photograph, but six centimetres are the difference between resting on the rim and dropping inside. Measure the rim of your own vessel.

02 · THE MICRONS

Coarse mesh: it is the first barrier, not the finish

Between 830 and 870 microns we are talking about almost a millimetre of aperture, wider than any fine-straining mesh. And that is the point: it takes the honey as it comes off the extractor, holds back cappings, coarse wax and bees, and does not slow the filling down. Fine straining comes afterwards.

03 · THE SEATING

Check it sits true before you tip in twenty kilos

It rests on the rim and stays there by its own weight, but check the seating with the tank level before you have the bucket in your hands: loaded with honey and cappings it is heavy, and a badly seated ring tilts at the worst moment. When you finish, rinse it hot while the wax still runs.

The mesh is declared between 830 and 870 microns depending on the production run: if you work to a specific figure, allow for that margin.
