01 · IT IS FOR THE BALL JOINTS

What holds the arm's precision

The ball joints are the spherical articulations that let you place the syringe anywhere and leave it there. When they dry out, stiction appears: the arm does not move, then moves all at once, and that jump is paid for at the scale of tenths of a millimetre. It is formulated for that point of the insemination station, models 1.01 and 1.02 — the 1.02 is the one in the catalogue.

02 · WHY SILICONE AND NOT ANY GREASE

A mineral grease takes the machine with it

Silicone does not migrate, does not evaporate and does not attack plastics or elastomers. Mineral greases do: they swell seals and technical plastics, and on a device full of small parts you do not see it until something stops fitting. It is also stable over time, so it does not turn tacky and collect dust.

03 · VERY LITTLE, AND OFTEN

Three grams last years

Apply a small amount regularly, not a coat: excess attracts dust and ends up where it should not — and here, where it should not is the glass tip. That is why a 3 g pot is not small; it is what a device actually uses.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

This is maintenance of the equipment's arm. It does not come into contact with the semen or the queen.
