01 · WHAT IT DOES IN THE SYSTEM

The two hooks work in opposition

In instrumental insemination the sting chamber has to be held open while you work, and no single part does that: the ventral hook and the dorsal hook act in opposite directions to hold the position. This is the ventral one, reference 1.23; the dorsal is a different part with its own reference. Alignment, force and sequence follow the equipment manual and the operator's training — the hook holds, it does not decide, and on its own it guarantees neither precision nor outcome.

02 · THE LUER CONE IS THE COMPATIBILITY

A connection standard, not a brand

What lets this part fit is not the manufacturer, it is the Luer cone: a standardised taper that makes tips interchangeable on the same handle. In this system, the hook mounts on the Schley 1.24 handle, which carries that same cone. Before ordering, check two things separately: that your handle is the 1.24, and that what you need is the ventral and not the dorsal — it is the commonest mix-up, and the two parts look alike enough to order the wrong one.

03 · IT IS A WEAR PART

The tip loses alignment, and gets replaced

An insemination hook works at the limit of fineness, so the tip goes out of true with use and with any knock or drop — which is why it exists as a separate spare. What you should not do is straighten or readjust it yourself without instructions: a tip corrected by eye throws the assembly out and does more harm than the worn part. Always work with magnification, lighting and a stable stand, and follow the manufacturer's and the laboratory's cleaning, disinfection and storage protocol.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The reference includes one hook and nothing else: no handle, no stand, no syringe, none of the rest of the equipment.
